Our Current Van

2005 Freightliner Sprinter 158"

This is our second (and current) van. It is a 2005 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 158"

Other than being a Freightliner instead of a Dodge (or Mercedes - they're all the same thing actually) the only differences between this current van and our first van, is this van is 2 years newer and we bought it with 140k miles instead of 329k!

We found this van on craigslist just before selling our first van. I flew up to Las Vegas (from Phoenix) to buy it and drive it back down to our relatives house to build it out while waiting for our baby to be born. It ended up taking 3 months for this build to be finished. about 3-4 weeks of that was waiting for our windows to arrive and for the paint shop to get our exterior painted (we had a lot of rust we fixed).

Most people would look at it and think, compared to our last, we just used different wood stain and paint. While the floorplan is very similar (and arguably identical to most people), much has changed in our eyes and it is much more comfortable and convenient to us.

Here are some key differences:

Our First Van

2003 Dodge Sprinter 158"

This is our original van. A 2003 Dodge Sprinter 2500 158" wheelbase.

We purchased it in July 2015 with 329k miles. We spent 7-8 months building out the van into a livable space and drove it from Arizona to Alaska and back (and a ton of places in between) over the course of about 7 months during 2016.

At the end of 2016, we stopped living in the van for a few months in order to give birth to our baby girl, Juniper. We sold our original van in order to buy and build a second Sprinter, so we could accommodate a seat for Juniper to be buckled safely in the vehicle.
